so, Juffy may have been right. About me taking things up a notch.
Saturday I went swimming - sadly the chest strap part of my monitor had been left at work, so no readings. But the few public lanes open were so full that I decided to swim in the diving pool instead. Which is 33 meters across apparently*. So I decided that I would swim sets of one lap free-style, one lap breast-stroke and one lap back-stroke, and swim 5 sets. That would put me at pretty much a kilometre.
So I did, and it was fine, and I realised that I had just gone up a level by making only one third of my swim the easy 'survival' stroke. Two thirds of my click was in the 'hard work' strokes. and I didn't really notice any difference. huh. so maybe Juf is right?
Sunday my workout was my work - baby markets are back on. And it was soooo hot. Packing up 100 stalls in that humidity and heat should have utterly killed me - and it did - but I realised I was so much stronger. I went hard for the whole hour of pack up, pretty much. Stacking chairs, carrying tables - it was fine. I was actually pretty sorry I didn't have my monitor on, it would have been interesting to see how hard I was working.
Today I rode home, and a weird thing happened - either I have gotten significantly fitter all of a sudden, or my monitor isn't working right. I will have to get back into the gym and get one one of the machines and see if their heart rate tracks with my watch. I rode along as per normal, and when I hit the first bridge I rode up and over. But this time my watch didn't beep madly at me that I was going too hard. which is weird. actually most of the time it was beeping at me was because I was going too easy - which hasn't happened before. well, aside from at the start. In fact, it didn't tell me off for going to hard until I was on the cycleway near city west. I still didn't quite make it up the last hill - I made it to the second cross street on the bike and walked up the last 50 meters or so.
but also - I was home in a little under 29 minutes today. I actually had to ride round the block to get over 30 minutes.
maybe I am getting faster - I did overtake someone today. Someone on a bike I mean, not on legs. My first overtake. he he he.
oh, stats for today's ride - they don't look any different actually. ok, it is all in my head.

* someone really liked that number, as the tallest diving board that used to stand over the pool was 33 feet high!
