TV

Is anyone else watching 'the newsroom'? I was blown away by the first ep, and the second ep was a bit weaker (but hey, you have to do exposition and set up the characters and so on) but we watched ep 3 last night and it was excellent again. I am loving Mackenzie and Jim so far.

Yay Aaron Sorkin.

Lions v Christians - I'll take the Lions, any day.

So Tony Abbott was apparently asked how he reconciles his position on refugees and turning back boats with his much publicised christianity. Apparently he said that in his opinion it is not christian of the refugees to 'come in via the back door'.

I might be wrong, but to me, he seems to be saying that one only need extend a 'christian' welcome to those who's actions embody your own view of the right type of christianity. Right? But this is where I get confused - Isn't christianity supposed to be about how you, personally act and live your life? Not about judging others by their actions and ... well putting them into the 'lepers' category. Jesus really does need to return to earth, if only to demand some 'use of image and name' rights.

Aside from the fact that most of the people who are coming here on boats are unlikely to BE christians. Mind you, if they were Tony's type of christians I might be more worried about them.

Meh. Seriously, get religion out of our public debate. THIS is why *ahem* 'people of faith' don't get to have a place in the public discourse, oh professor of legal theory - because they are usually nasty little hypocrits who use their "faith" to rank others.
