so, I handed out how-to-vote cards for a greens candidate today. I know the candidate, and I wanted an election off from the AEC, to enjoy it with politics nerd stuff. And handing out HTVs is part of that for me.
but I have never gotten abuse before, and I did, a little today. weird, the greens seem to really rattle some northern suburbs* voters. Nicely, quite a few people were looking for the greens person, and the other polling booth people were nice, but it was a bit interesting.
It was definitely fun though when it started to rain, and I had a greens umbrella with me - and I was ferrying people around under my brolly and pointing out that 'the greens are the people who expect abrupt climate change and come prepared!"
and, where was the sausage sizzle? or the cake stall? what will the election staff eat if there isn't one? you aren't allowed to leave the property. what kind of school doesn't make a buck off holding an election there?
roll on the evening. I would like to see the greens pick up some senate seats - be interesting if they pick up a lower house seat too. Don't want lib win, and definitely don't want Bob Katter made kingmaker. Did anyone else see that startling effort of his on lateline the other night? did he really say that his electorate could support 60 million people? and suggest we import indonesians?
