bit slack on the updating - so mega-update.

Thought I was going to be present for the birth of a new family member last week. I was out with my sister-in-law and she was having pains on one side of her bump. I said 'um, rhythmic pains? at your back too. right, think we might pop over and see your ob/gyn a bit early today'. My brother is working in NSW, so it was kind of an interesting thought. Thankfully no-one required me to be their birthing partner or anything. Not that my SIL is going to push or anything.

So have been spending time with my niece, who is getting along fine with the wookie and I. We aren't people she runs upto and hugs (actually that is hilarious, when she is at my parent's house, it is all "poppy, poppy?" Dead funny when you consider my mum does all the work) but wWe have taken her off to the park by ourselves a couple of times, and all has gone well. Later in the week I am taking her to swimming class while her mum goes off to the doctor.

Also caught up with Babalon_93 and kids. I know the elder one a little, but the second small I have never met. Fabulous wicked grin. And #1 is still an endearing moppet - I always found zer amusing.

I have been doing lots of wedding prep stuff. Dress has been adjusted - doesn't look too bad. Jewellery bough, shoes bought (second pair bought by me because there is no way I make it through 9 hours in shoes that high). Hens night done. Just the final mani/pedi and wedding day to go... oh hell and I have to write a speech. bugger. And if you don't mind, I have to be there at 6.30am for hair and makeup - because 5 people other than the three of us in the bridal party are getting hair and make-up done, and she will need 6 hours to do us all. Oh well, guess I can curl up and study eh?

but, dress is good, and is not hid-e-ass. what do you know.

weirdest thing about wedding prep I realised today - I had my forearms waxed (yeah I know, but honestly, I have a couple of photos where I look like I am wearing weird gloves - and I just don't want to think about it on the day). I went swimming today - and MAN it is a weird sensation to swim with waxed arms. It is like when you have peppermint oil on your feet and you put them in hot water and it doesn't feel hot. My arms felt really cold and weird swimming.

and exercise - am doing really well sticking to my schedule since I have been here. Have been alternating running and swimming. Not managed either when up in Brissy.... but down here on 'The GC" (according to the ads) I have been really good. There is a dog park with an althletics oval next to it quite near my parents where the wookie and I have been taking mum's dog. He walks him, I run. Yesterday I got down the coast all keen to go for a run, and failed miserably to recognise what the 4 inches of rain the night before would mean to that plan. The track was actually squelching as I walked. sucking at my feet. and idiot that I am, I went running. The first two intervals on the wet bit I thought would kill me. Found a bit of the oval that was basically dry, and stuck to running on that. Even that was too hard, and the last interval I did running back and forth on the rubber track that leads up to the long jump pits! If it is still wet tomorrow I will need to suck it up and run on a path I think.

swimming going well too. we found a great pool here and bought a multi-entry - so we are getting my mum to come along too. Am back up to 5 x 200 (public pool) IM. Feeling pretty good about it too. Huffing and puffing after the freestyle length, but handling it all fine.

Hmm - so I think that is it for my trip over so far. Actually am enjoying it here - and am quite looking forward to coming and staying a couple of months next year. With no wedding, and no ridiculous amount of uni work to do (never agreeing to take on note taking mid-semester again - it is killing me) but still get to see people, and do all the stuff I am enjoying.

but do I ever miss wifi. Going to be glad to get home, where my cat is, my stuff is, where my computer works in bed... that kind of stuff. I miss work, I miss decent yum cha.... can't wait to get home.
