Lets talk steam punk.

My friends are getting married next month, and it is a steam punk/goth wedding. So I want to make a bit of effort, but I am not sure what to do. Preferably on little money. Which would mean making stuff, which I don't have time to do. Sigh.

So me - I have this bridesmaids dress that I reckon the top bit would work well for it. It is this sort of shiny fuchsia (that sounds hideous, but it is lovely) and it is a strapless bodice, ruched a little on one side under the boob, and then slit all the way from the floor up. Obviously I would need to put something under it. Would it work if I made a kind of black tulle layered underskirt do you think? Or should i try and make/get some kind of victorian under drawers.

and then wear my black zip up boots and buy some kind of crazy steampunk hat? I have been looking at some online and the wookie is getting very excited by them and urging me to buy one and have it sent here.

What is missing from this? I thought I would put my hair up and have curls dripping down.

Also, Atticus. I am loving the idea of steam punk baby. But he hates hats or anything on his head, which rules ALOT out. I have seen a booties pattern that could be done like spats. And I am thinking just pants, a plain shirt and a vest. I will get some kind of hat for photos, but he won't keep it on. Alternatively I am thinking I could just get a onesie, and iron on some mechanical shapes on it, and maybe sew on some bits that look like the inside of a clock. Anyone got any ideas?

Or suggestions (other than pintrest and ebay) where I can look for inspiration/patters/not too expensive stuff I can buy?

Thanks inter webs.

I absolutely love this. Maybe everyone has already seen it and I am miles behind (not unusual). But in case I ahve stumbled onto something before everyone else - check it out. It is called 'this is water' and is a little film someone has made of a commencement speech.
