Grumble

The assholes at (I assume) main roads have ripped up the cycle path between Leach Hwy and South Street, I discovered this morning when I hit that stretch on my way out to uni. There is this lovely map there that suggests that there is an alternative route on the other side of the freeway, so just go up and over and back onto the cycle path. Only when you get up to the freeway there is no direction, and as far as I could find, no path. At all.

So I stumbled around the backstreets of a suburb I don't know, hoping to find my way by luck or osmosis or something. I am really pissed off. I was exhausted, and hot, and out of water, and really didn't need to be lost on top of everything. And made late. Plus having to deal with traffic. I get that they are doing work, but what is with not directing people clearly to the alternative path. Especially in the week school goes back, and uni is about to start up again.

I am going to have to poke around cycling sites to see if there is any explanation of what is going on, and where you are supposed to ride instead. Otherwise the one day a week I am planning to ride to uni will bite the dust until the path is restored.

Accomplishment

I have managed to have a very effective day today, and it is only 3pm.

I rode to Leeming this morning, burning over 1400 kcals. So got my exercise done.

Worked with Fred_Mouse - and actually got some work done on my report (thank goodness, I really have been stalled). I like her system and I am hoping I can make it work for me going forward.

Went to a meeting with some law student reps about organising some events for older law students. It went really well - they actually asked me to write some stuff for them. And we have some good plans going forward.

Then I got home in time to catch up with my friend L and her two kids. We went off looking for somewhere airconditioned and where the kids could play, and ended up at the wembly food court - has a playground and this afternoon a LOT of kids running about, and we could get some drinks. Ended up at home with them and our fellas having a chat and watching the kids play with the (somewhat horrified) cat. And the Jools.

So a good day - got my exercise, got some work done, did some community work, saw some friends, made some smalls happy. Not a bad day - and in plenty of time to have my dinner and watch some of that liberal media elites discuss politics.
