Riding to work
Jan. 12th, 2011 08:27 amI rode in today, using the bike paths along the train lines. It is a MUCH tougher ride to work than home.
Some thoughts;
Riding on the bike paths means that when you stuff up and do something stupid - there are lots of other cyclist there to see you do it. *doh!*
My D-lock falls off when I ride. I knock it out of the attachement somehow. I have tried different positions - I think it has to come in my backpack from now on.
The bridge at the old Entertainment Centre is DREADFUL. Seems designed to make everyone cyclists and pedestrians alike, pissy at each other. I guess the point of the gates is to make people slow down, but it just causes confusion and anger that the other shared path bridge I take doesn't.
To the girl who was walking down the shared path on the wrong side - I get it. I do that sometimes in Kings Park. It is because your eyes are in the front of your head not the back, and you want to see what is coming at you. Fine. But when a cyclist IS coming at you (especially a fat wobbly one like me), you should get off that side of the path. Otherwise you are an idiot.
When riding on the bike path, there is no dignified way to get off and walk up a hill. There just isn't. All the other cyclists go flying by you and you just have to accept that you are pitiful. I only walked up one hill. No, two - when my D-lock fell off on the bridge, I had to get off to get it, and then I walked up that hill.
I am going to ride home today too. At this rate I might be able to manage the trip to uni when it goes back. Not the whole ride - just the ride to the first train station I am allowed to get on with the bike.
