And I have one grumpy politics thing that I am considering putting on a banner outside my house. And not putting behind a cut. About the NBN and all the endless discussion of cost and what we need and so on. Very very good RN program looking at it if you are interested - Background Briefing. Anyway, my sign would be this;

46 BILLION IS THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR LETTING JOHN HOWARD SELL TELSTRA WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE ATTACHED.

Because seriously, we could do fibre-to-the-node, and then a decade of installing fibre-to-the-premises (I would say rural first) if it wasn't for the obstructionist, gouging, greedy, grasping, monster that JH unleased on us. So instead we have to build another infrastructure from scratch. And yes we should think big and put in the sydney harbour bridge* of infrastructure. No we probably don't need those speeds right now, but we will in time, and so lets get it right now. No private companies won't do it right - look at health. look at qantas. look at... anything.

Right, that is off my chest. ooooh - t-shirts. hmmm.

*apparently when the SHB was built they needed about a fifth of the capacity. and now, what 80 years later? it is still coping with the traffic. That is pretty awesome forward planning and thinking big.

and, because I can't stop telling people weird law stuff - Did you know, it is illegal to challenge someone to a duel in WA? s72 of the criminal code. (also Qld, but I don't know the section). And, illegal to pick up bird poo.

It is the little things...

Studying law is just too cool. The stuff that comes up in class or readings. Like in trespass to land (airspace). If I fire a bullet across your land is that trespass to land? well... actually this goes on for a bit and involves a dead cat. mebbe I will leave it to people to ask me for details. Or the torts case that allows you to sue and exclude people from land that you don't own. If you act like you own it for long enough, it kind of becomes true.

anyway, that isn't the cool bit I just stumbled over. Did you know that in 1849 The Secretary of State for the Colonies was Earl Grey. Isn't that fantastic? Earl Grey is who got the ball rolling for us to become a nation. I knew I liked Earl Grey for a reason - I just didn't know that reason was patriotism!

off to make some tea.....
